Rasaayana
Rojaakkal on women empowerment
The movie has a very global appeal to it with women empowerment
as it’s centrist theme. Recently, Rahman presented two songs from the film at
his Coke Studio performance which aired on MTV.
One of the songs was
titled “Naan Yen Pirandein” (Why was I born?). “It is a song about a girl
shunned by society because of her dark skin and abject poverty. About her agony
on being lonely and persecuted and how she redeems herself from these obstacles
and oppression”, disclosed the composer.Naan Yen Pirandein is sung by Rahman
and his sister Raihannah, with lyrics penned by late great Vaali.
Talking about the 2nd
track “Ennile Maha Oliyo” (I discovered the divine light within me) Rahman
says, “This song is about the world of a liberated woman, her rapture and the
blossoming of feminism.” A special song in itself, it has lyrics by Kutti
Revathi. Both Rahman’s sisters Issrath and Raihannah have lent their voices for
this track. Rasaayana Rojaakkal is an ambitious project by the composer who is
keen on producing more meaningful cinema highlighting contemporary issues.
