Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer Movie Review |
With
a running time of about 106 minutes, ‘Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer’, a romantic
drama, is one of the shortest running Tamil movies in the recent time. Director
Suseenthiran has gone back to making a heart-warming tale after his
‘Raajapattai’ debacle. The film is a perfect example of how a water-tight
screenplay with a lesser known cast could turn out to be an engaging movie.
Plot
The
film revolves around how friendship blossoms into love between Karthik
(Santhosh) and Shwetha (Manisha Yadav). When they become intimate, Shwetha
becomes pregnant and her parents find it out. The rest of the story shows what
happens to the couple.
Performances
Santhosh
as the college student is adequate in his role. But, he needs to improve on his
expressions. He scores well in the second half, particularly when he slits his
wrist with a broken bottle. It is Manisha Yadav who walks away with the honors.
Be it showing the bubbly side of hers in the first half or turning emotional in
the second half, she is very impressive.
Jayaprakash
as a doting father aces up in his role as usual and Poornima Bagyaraj makes her
comeback after a long time. Arjunan of ‘Kaadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi’ fame
appears as Santhosh’s friend entertains with his gang of friends in the first
half.
Technicalities
Yuvan Shankar Raja has definitely produced
some heart-melting music in the film. Without his music, the movie might not
have turned out to be what it is actually now. ‘Mella Sirithal’ is a peppy
number and the climax song ‘Aararo’ will surely leave a lump in your throat.
Soorya’s cinematography is functional and the colour tones are apt. Anthony’s
editing is crisp and the pace does not lag anywhere.
Screenplay and Direction – Suseenthiran
Suseenthiran has come out with an
uncompromising yet engaging screenplay. The first half of the movie is filled
with lively sequences involving friends. The title track showcasing different
couples at different premises aptly conveys the theme of the movie. The
director has strictly stayed away from item songs and forceful comedy.
There is a gradual shift in the feel of the
movie, just before the end of the first half. The second half is more emotional
and performance-oriented. Kudos to the director for not going overboard with
preachy dialogues or exaggerated sequences! He has made sure the sensitive
theme is handled in a poignant manner. Also, the climax looks very convincing,
although it might remind one of the ending of ‘Raatinam’. Be assured to leave
the cinema hall with a heavier heart.
Bottomline
‘Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer’ is riveting and
eye-opening, sans any preachy advices. A must watch for all youngsters and
their parents!
